Great value for the money…A feature rich smartphone. – My daughter is going to college after this summer. She is using a 4-year old Huawei Mate2 phone. She complains the phone’s slow response. So, I am searching for a replacement phone for a while. Got this Honor View 10 on Amazon prime day event. Based on the features and capabilities this phone is offering, the $399 price is a steal.

Great battery life! Lots of features, nice XL screen – Upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, just about everything is better about this phone – the battery life is incredible for one thing, and I find no need to carry around a charger wherever I go. It is a bit on the heavy side, and the 18:9 screen doesn’t make it an easy fit for pockets. Might have hoped for a higher resolution screen, but for the price point, I can deal with 2160×1080. Mine came with a clear rubber/plastic back cover, which is a bit of an essential due to the dual cameras poking out of the back of the phone. This cover also makes it not quite as easy to accidentally activate the three buttons on the side, but does not impede normal operation. I thought with dual cameras I’d have some sort of 3D video functionality, but this appears not to be the case (at least with the stock EMUI/Android Oreo 8.1 camera app) – however, the pictures and video from the camera(s?) seem to be pretty good quality. Having to buy all new charger cables was a bit of a drag (going from MicroUSB to USB-C), but the charging speed absolutely makes up for that! Less than an hour from 20% charge to being ready to go for another 24 hours! The fingerprint reader is quite snappy, the touchscreen quite responsive, brightness seems to be well-adjusted, the built-in speaker is fairly loud with okay quality, and still having a headphone jack is a HUGE plus in my opinion. I found it easy to root following instructions on xda, as the bootloader unlock codes are provided by Huawei themselves, free of charge! As I don’t do much in the way of gaming, I have no notes on intense graphical performance, but for games like Auralux 2, this phone performs just fantastic. App loading time is nearly nonexistent, boot time is under 30 seconds, and with 128GB of internal storage + whatever sized MicroSD card you can stuff in it, you’ll never run out of space for games, pictures, even video making – and you can get a USB-C to USB-A adapter and attach external hard drives or flash drives as well, just beware they can quickly drain the battery as it was not really designed for such use. Mobile talk and network: I used to have problems keeping a good connection to cell towers with the S5Active… With this phone, that is no longer an issue in most cases. I don’t use the dual-SIM feature, so no notes there. I use the 802.11AC Wifi for tethering mobile data to my home network, and it’s very quick – I have pulled video from the phone directly to my laptop at well over 150mbps, maybe even 200 I can’t remember exactly (on the 5Ghz band of course). Most of my negative thoughts have more to do with the software than the hardware of this phone… The stock music app sucked, I replaced it with Musicolet – the stock camera app isn’t exactly what I’d hoped for, but I’m sure there’s one out there I could replace it with, if I really wanted to spend the money for it. Or just use my Canon cameras, but who does that anymore? Android Oreo’s collection of stock tones and alarms are terrible, and they completely did away with custom text tones per contact. Thankfully I was able to migrate all my tones from prior phones to this one, and I got Textra (free with ads) for my custom text tones functionality… May very well go ahead and pay for it because it’s a pretty good texting app. The EMUI launcher isn’t all that great either, but having been using Solo Launcher on my S5A, that was easy enough to fix. I’m sure there’s more I haven’t covered here, some features I use, others I don’t. For the price and what you get, I’d surely recommend it to a friend, or anyone really!
