Very easy to use. – Purchased this for my autistic cousin. Wanted to get rid of her landline, but had trouble teaching her to use a smart phone. Needed something simple with no internet. This fits the bill perfectly. Charges on a stand similar to her old cordless phone so I don’t have to worry about her not plugging it in. Nice big numbers that she can easily see. She is a little hard of hearing, but she has no trouble hearing this phone ring. I love the fact that you can set it to automatically go to speaker phone when she makes or receives a call. Best part is the price of service. $100 for a year of unlimited calls. Landline had gone up to $50 a month, and was out of service about 4 or 5 times a year. If you have an elderly relative, or someone who lacks the finesse or mental capacity to operate a smartphone, you should give this a try. I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase.

Basic – It is adequate and airtime pricing is good. The manual is also basic. It does not say how to connect incoming calls quickly to voicemail which is mostly what I wanted this phone for. Callers have to wait until it rings 6 – 7 times and often that is too long to wait and I get a lot of hang ups. Also, and the worst thing, is that the phone number I was given belonged to someone else and I immediately started getting telemarketing phone calls. This happened with 20 minutes of activating my phone and has continued over time. Telemarketers do not give up.

Finally, an affordable cell phone that’s a simple phone – I’m 72 and It took about 5 minutes for me to get it turned on and it popped up with my time already in it. So easy, so simple. I’d like it to be a bit smaller but I’m sure most seniors will like the size. Easy to fit in your hand, unlike smart phones. Shows the time- the date- and the day, large and readable on the home screen.

Extremely poor customer service – I ordered this phone for my elderly father in May 2022. In Novemeber 2022, the phone would not charge past 1% and he was unable to use it. We contacted Jethro and they had us submit a form via email. After three long days, I received an email back from them requesting additional information and pictures of the not working phone. I quickly sent out requested information. That was 4 days ago, and I haven’t heard anything back from them as of yet. In the meantime, my father had to get a trac phone because the wait time for Jethro has been, let’s say, extremely long. The phone was adequate until something went wrong with it and we had to rely on extremely poor customer service. Yesterday, my father had had enough and just went to a verizon store picked out a new phone and got on one of their plans for 35/monthly.

Why make a senior phone with low sound output? – In terms of phone usage, the major challenges facing seniors are sight, dexterity, hearing, and memory.

Simple to use – Although my caption says simple to use, my mom’s dementia is further along than I thought. I can’t get her to figure out how to use it. She keeps confusing it with a remote control. To be fair she hasn’t used a cell phone in years; just the old fashion push button landline. I set it up and it was easy, I set it up to answer on speaker and the sound quality is good. I would recommend it for seniors. Just not mine. 🙁

Simple 4G cell phone for dad – Was shopping for a simple cell phone for my elderly dad. Was leaning towards a Jitterbug but the reviews were so-so. Then found this Jethro SC490. The phone was comparably priced and the minutes were cheaper and on the T-Mobile network. Loved how we could purchase 6 months or even a year’s worth of unlimited text/call minutes at one time for less than $10 mo. Battery is great and so is the call clarity, and it is so easy to use. Dad loves it!!
